Christmas Celebrations, San Antonio Style?

Thursday December 25, 2008
If you are like me and my family, you celebrate Christmas on December 24 with a day of family, friends, remembrances and tamales. You then wait until midnight and open gifts, with December 25th being cleanup, leftovers and helping kids put the inevitable batteries in all their toys.

The vast majority of those I know in San Antonio have similar celebrations, with a very small minority waiting until Christmas morning to open gifts, followed by a meal and day of family and friends.

In my travels around the country, I find that other areas all do the Christmas Day celebration instead of Eve. So I am going to ask the readers -- which do you do? In your experience, is your celebration style a San Antonio thing, or do you know others across the country who do this, too? I have a feeling the answers might be surprising.

Oh yeah, and a hearty Holiday to all, no matter how you celebrate it!

Growing up we always opened presents on Christmas Day. As a kid I always hated having to wait until Christmas day. Now that I’m an adult with a child of my own, I changed it so that we open presents on Christmas Eve. I like this set up so much better. However, my daughter is always pushing to open the presents earlier and earlier on Christmas Eve. I have no idea where she gets that impatient streak from. ;)
