There Will be No Trans-Texas Corridor

Wednesday January 7, 2009
Opponents of toll roads can breathe a sigh of relief today after it was announced yesterday that the proposed Trans-Texas Corridor is being abandoned.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) made the announcement that the 4,000 miles of highways, toll roads and rail lines that was championed by Gov. Rick Perry will not go forward because it "is not the choice of Texans."

The plan was controversial from the start because it would rely heavily on public funding and toll roads, two things that mean more money out of citzens' pockets. The project would have made it easier to get from such South Texas cities as Brownsville and Laredo to Central cities like San Antonio and Austin and then on to North Texas with a loop around the DFW metroplex.
