Stimulus Package to Bring 50 More Police Officers to S.A.

By March 8, 2009

The stimulus bill signed into law last month by President Barack Obama was already slated to bring thousands of jobs to South Texas, as indicated by a previous blog post.

But this weekend came news that San Antonio will receive much more aid than that. $3.8 million more, to be exact.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Gonzalez, D-San Antonio, has said that the funds have been earmarked for the hiring of 50 new police officers to hit the streets soon and help keep our communities safer.

Whether you like the stimulus bill or not, this is good news, particularly in a time of economic turmoil, when traditionally crime has gone up as people lose jobs, homes and sometimes hope.
