But the stimulus package signed into law by President Obama (more formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) is about to give more to be thankful for.
Local school districts are about to receive $104 million in emergency education funding, something that many districts desperately need as they struggle with decreased revenue due to falling property values.
These funds are in addition to many 2009 budget and stimulus windfalls for the city. Those include the addition of 4,500 jobs to the area, 50 more police officers on the streets and River Walk and airport improvements.
Also remember that you can see stimulus dollars at work with a website that the state comptroller's office developed.
