San Antonio Will Soon Enjoy Another Tax Holiday

By May 18, 2009

We here in San Antonio are used to the tax holidays for school items, but now you can enjoy another type of tax holiday--on energy-efficient products.

In case you didn't know, this Memorial Day Weekend will mark the second year that Texas has allowed the Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday. Sales tax will not be collected across the state for the following items:

* air conditioners priced less than $6,000
* ceiling fans
* dehumidifiers
* dishwashers
* incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
* programmable thermostats
* refrigerators priced less than $2,000
* clothes washers

For a full list of rules and regulations regarding this tax holiday, visit the state's Energy Star Holiday FAQs page.

The period for tax-free purchasing is, according to the website, "beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the Saturday preceding the last Monday in May (Memorial Day) and ending at 11:59 p.m. on the last Monday in May."' That would be the 23rd-25th of May, or this coming weekend.

Will you be purchasing anything to save on tax? If you were planning a purchase anyways, this might be the perfect time to dip your toe into the buying pool.
