San Antonio Missions to be Featured on U.S. Quarter

By September 10, 2009

We shift from talk about one set of San Antonio Missions (the baseball team, which was the subject of my last blog post) to one about the actual Spanish Missions that are a big part of the rich history we have here in San Antonio.

Those missions are going to be a part of the U.S. Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters Program. Basically, the program will feature a national park from all the states, with the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park being the 49th quarter in the set. This means that you won't actually see this quarter until 2019, when it is slated to be issued.

The first set of quarters (five in all) will be issued next year in 2010 with five new ones issued every year through 2019. These quarters are sure to become collector's items, so keep an eye out for them early next year if you want to collect the whole set.
