Missions Eliminated from Playoffs

By September 13, 2009

After a few heartbreaking losses and a couple of valiant comeback attempts, the San Antonio Missions fell to the Midland RockHounds in the South Division playoff series. They lost both games 3 and 4 in Midland over the weekend, handing Midland a 3-1 series win.

The RockHounds will now go on to face the winner of the North Division series for the Texas League Championship. The Missions last won the title in 2007, their first year as the San Diego Padres AA Affiliate.

Despite the loss, a story on the Missions' official website said the mood in the clubhouse after the loss was surprisingly light. Two of the players had been notified that they had been promoted to the MLB parent club Padres and were being congratulated by their teammates.

Manager Terry Kennedy was quoted as saying "Three years in a row in the playoffs, I think any affiliate would be proud of that." Well, even if the Padres aren't proud (though I am sure they are), the city and all your fans are proud, Terry. Here's to another great playoff-bound year in 2010.
