Locals have probably seen the yearly draining of the River Walk in order to look for artifacts from the past and other reasons. It is a long and muddy task, and it is about to get done once more.
The River Walk will be drained in order to remove over 2,500 cubic yards of sediment that have settled at the bottom of the famed river. The city plans to wait until after all the New Year's Eve revelers have gone and will drain the river starting January 3rd.
The removal of the sediment is planned for the next day, January 4th and will take several days, with the end of removal scheduled for January 12th. Then, the process of refilling the river begins, with everything back to normal by January 14th.
