The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced a huge grant that is going to go directly towards helping those who are homeless in the Alamo City.
The one-year grant will be given to the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) to help the Shelter Plus Care program, which is run by SAHA and helps 86 homeless individuals with not only shelter but support services as well.
The grant specifically targets the Shelter Plus Care program, which helps arguably the neediest and most helpless of the homeless, people with physical and/or mental disabilities, HIV/AIDS-related health issues and more. These people often find it hard to find or keep work and therefore pay rent.
