As of 10:00 a.m. this morning, it was official--UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures became an official affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute (this link opens in .pdf format).
So what does this mean for the Institute? It means access to a wealth of resources that the Smithsonian has on hand. This includes artifacts, displays, expert speakers, and more. It also means that the Smithsonian Institute will have access to the same from the Institute.
Though today marks the first day of an official partnership, there has been no shortage of interaction between the two Institutes in the past. The first came in 1972 with the first-ever Texas Folklife Festival.
The Institute of Texan Cultures is located downtown and has a primary goal of telling the stories of Texans and being a multicultural education hub.
