City Manager Sheryl Sculley is making what she calls a "small gesture" by taking out all the high-calorie, sugary sodas and beverages out of the vending machines that are in public, city-controlled buildings. She will soon make a sweep of the food vending machines by taking out high-calorie and sugary snacks and replacing them with healthier options.
Though it may be a small gesture, it is still significant as no other city as large as San Antonio has had a city manager or other high-ranking official come out with such a measure. Employees will still have the option of getting a quick sugar fix, but they must bring them in from home or go to a retail outlet to buy and bring to work in city buildings.
What do you think of this policy? Is it another invasion of government in our business, or is it a good gesture that should be applauded?
