Another day, another dubious distinction for our fair city. A recent study has resulted in San Antonio being ranked as one of the worst cities in America for trying to lose weight. This probably comes as no surprise to people who are aware of the city consistently being in the top-10 fattest cities in the country as well.
The study was conducted by the American College of Sports Medicine's American Fitness Index, which looked closely at the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States and found that San Antonio was the 43rd most fit. Houston was 42nd and Dallas was the 40th fittest, putting the three biggest cities in Texas in the bottom 10. In contrast, Austin was the 10th fittest city.
Going hand-in-hand with these findings is the annoucement that the Nix Health Care System has achieved a 5-star rating for bariatric surgery. These surgeries are more commonly known as weight-loss surgeries because they are only given to morbidly obese individuals who have trouble losing weight any other way.
