With all of the that are going to be coming to Ft. Sam in the future, it is no surprise that area residents have been having meetings to try and create a common plan for revitalizing the area.
Those plans just got a big boost in the way of a grant from the Economic Development Administration. The grant comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The plan is to upgrade streets and sidewalks along the Walters Street Corridor and to try and tempt business owners into opening up stores in the area.
This is great news for the under-served East side neighborhood and could be a big boost for San Antonio in general, as construction and hopefully retail jobs may come of this. The project is set to start this year, possibly as soon as late summer now that funding is fully in place.
To find out what the plans are, you can visit the city's official website and see what can be expected.
