I have written here in this blog several times in the past about the proposed smoking ban that had long been simmering on the City Council agenda. Finally, it was voted upon and the smoking laws that are already on the book will now be strengthened.
Smoking will no longer be allowed in all indoor workplaces, including restaurants and bars. The bars had been a point of contention for opponents of the ban, who claimed that many could go out of business due to the law. Recently, I posted a blog about a study that seems to say that this would not be the case.
The changes will take place on August 19, 2011, a year after it was approved in a 7-4 vote. This gives the businesses that may be affected a lot of time to try and figure out how this may affect their profits and business plan.
I also wrote awhile back about how a complete smoking ban across the entire state is still a reality.
How do you feel about the smoking ban? Is it good for public health or another example of government trying to tell people how to run their business/lives? I've heard both arguments in this divisive issue.
