Celebrating the Arrival of Columbus in America

Many events are happening in San Antonio surrounding Columbus Day. These events celebrate Italian culture and the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America.

San Antonio Christopher Columbus Italian Society (CCIS) Events

  • Sunday, October 7, 2007 - 10:00am
    Mass takes place at the San Fransesco di Paola Catholic Church (205 Piazza Italia) at 10:00am, followed by a procession to Columbus Square Park, where a wreath will be placed at the Christopher Columbus statue. The Mayor will present the proclamation.
  • Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 3:00pm
    CCIS Ladies Auxiliary will be making Italian Cannoli and Pizzelle pastries at the Christopher Columbus Italian Hall, 201 Piazza Italia, located near the intersection of IH-10 and Martin Street.
  • Friday, October 12, 2007 - 9:00am
    The mixing, rolling and frying of the CCIS Italian meatballs as they gear up for the main event on Sunday.
  • Saturday, October 13, 2007 - 8:00am
    The making of the spaghetti sauce for the main event on Sunday.
  • Sunday, October 14, 2007
    Main Event
    Come out to the 10:00am mass followed by the Genuine Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner served at Christopher Columbus Italian Hall from 11:00am-5:00pm. You will also be able to endulge in homemade Italian desserts, including cannoli, pizzelle and spumoni icecream.

    Price of the dinner is $6.50 (Adult) and $3.50 (Children), which includes spaghetti, (2) meatballs, salad and bread.

    • Craft booths
    • Bocci tournment

    There will also be a special kids program with facepainting, balloon animals, moonwalk and other activities.

    Proceeds from this event will go to fund our many charitable contributions. Since 1890 the Christopher Columbus Italian Society has provided charitable services to the San Antonio Community.

    Fundraisers have provided services such as shoes for the St. Peter and St. Joseph Orphanage, an annual dinner for the homeless, a room at Santa Rosa Children’s hospital, the 100 club fundraiser for fallen police/fire and sheriff officers families, Rudy Franco Dinner, support of the Saint Francesco di Paola Catholic Church and free Italian classes.
