GBS-CIDP Foundation International Walk for Hope

From Kori Ellis, for About.com

GBS/CIDP Foundation International:
The GBS/CIDP Foundation International has declared the Month of May as awareness month for GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome) and CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy). The foundation provides support and assistance to GBS/CIDP patients and their families, and also help increase knowledge and awareness of the disease.
GBS/CIDP Disease:
The disease attacks the nervous system and can paralyze an individual for extended periods of time. GBS is the most common cause of rapidly acquired paralysis in the country. In most cases, those with GBS recover completely in short time after being stricken.

People with CIDP do not recover completely, but keep the disease under control by getting blood cleansing or plasma exchange treatments periodically.

San Antonio GBS/CIDP Walk-a-thon:
The walk-a-thon takes place at the track of Oliver Wendell Holmes High School on Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 8:00am - 10:00am. The track is wheelchair accessible.

Holmes High School is located at 6500 Ingram Road, located near the intersection of Loop 410 and Ingram Road, across from the Ingram Park Mall.
