Everyone knows the basic Do's in a job interview, here's a list of the Interview Don'ts.
- Don't be late. If you can't make it on time to the interview, the potential employer will assume you won't make it on time to the job. Call ahead for directions.
- Don't lie on the application or in the interview. Answer honestly about your accomplishments and background.
- Don't volunteer negative information about yourself. There is no reason to bring up your weaknesses and faults unneccessarily.
- Don't criticize your former employers or co-workers. Even if you hated your last job and left on bad terms, it is in poor taste to criticize.
- Don't tell jokes, use slang or poor language. No matter how comfortable you feel with the person interviewing you, this isn't a social occasion.
- Don't talk too much. You shouldn't answer just yes or no, but keep it brief. Give a complete succinct answer to each question.
- Don't answer your cell phone. Make sure it's off or on silent ring.
- Don't ask about salary or vacation time. Try to delay salary talk until you've been offered the position, unless the interviewer brings up the subject.
- Don't act desperate. Act interested in the position, however don't convey that you would take any job or are desperate for employment.
- Don't chew gum, smell like smoke or wear dirty/torn clothing. Looking your best is very important when making a first impression.
- Don't slouch or fidget. Sit upright in your chair and don't squirm around, shake your leg or otherwise appear nervous.
