Christmas Tree Pickup in San Antonio

San Antonio Christmas Tree Recycling

By

Many people leave their Christmas trees up until sometime after the New Year arrives. But if you want to rid of it sooner or just don't know how to go about disposing of your Christmas tree after the New Year, then read this handy guide to the multiple ways to drop off or recycle your Christmas tree.

Christmas Tree Drop-Off

All Texas Disposal Systems locations (11601 Starcrest Drive and 7561 E. Evans Road) will accept trees starting the day after Christmas and going through January 10th. The hours are 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m, with limited hours on Saturdays. There are no drop-offs on Sundays. You can call (210) 494-0239 if you need more information. Sure, this is the harder way because you have to load your tree up into a car or truck and haul it yourself. But if you do not wish to wait until the official city curbside pickups, this is your best option. There is no charge for this service.

City of San Antonio Christmas Tree Recycling Service

The city will pick up your Christmas Tree on designated days to be recycled as mulch. If your usual trash pickup days are Monday or Thursday, then your trees will be picked up on Wednesday, January 6, 2009. If your usual trash pickup day is on Tuesday or Friday, your trees will be picked up on Saturday, January 9, 2009.

Before You Put Your Tree Out

The city does ask that you prepare your tree for recycling by taking off all ornaments and tree stands. Also, if the tree is 6 feet tall or more, please cut the tree in half. Do NOT wrap the tree in plastic or any other material. Also, all trees must be put on your front curb by 7:00 a.m. to ensure pickup. Even if your usual trash disposal is in your alley, your tree will only be picked up if it is on your front curb.

Mulch

In keeping with the huge (and highly successful) recycling initiative that the city has undertaken in recent years, the trees collected will not just be thrown away. Instead, they will be recycled into mulch that can be used in your gardens and yards. Christmas tree mulch will be available to the public beginning January 17, 2009. For information about the mulch and where to get some, see the city's official mulch and brush information page.
