December Events in San Antonio


Tis’ the season for lots of fun activities in the Alamo City. Here's a list of some options coming up in December.

1. Seguin Holiday Stroll and Parade

Seguin hosts its holiday parade Thursday, December 1st, kicking off the holiday season with its annual lighting of downtown and Central Park. More than 70 lighted parade entries are participating, including local marching bands, vendors, entertainment and more. Kids will get to visit with Santa in a Winter Wonderland snow play area. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, December 2, Sip N Stroll starts in downtown Seguin. Participating stores will offer free cocoa to those who purchase a specialized Kitty Keller mug. Santa and the Christmas carolers will be on hand. Horse drawn carriage rides through downtown will also be available. Admission is free. Additional fees for rides may play. The stroll runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Parade: Thursday, December 1: 6:30 p.m.
The parade begins at Austin and College Streets in downtown Seguin.
Stroll: Friday, December 2: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Stroll activities are in and around Central Park, 201 S. Austin Street and the Seguin Conservation Society Heritage Village located in the 200-block of E. Live Oak.

2. Tamales Festival

The Pearl Brewery hosts its second annual Tamales! Holiday Festival, one of San Antonio's newest holiday traditions. In addition to savory tamales for sale, there will be contests, demos, play areas for kids, entertainment, a farmer's market and much more at the Pearl. 3. San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce Mistletoe Madness Mixer

For those looking to do a little networking this holiday season, the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Mistletoe Madness Mixer. Network with Women's Chamber members and guests while enjoying food and (cash) bar.

4. Fiddler on the Roof

The Tony award winning musical, set in early 20th century Russia on the eve of the revolution, comes to Majestic Theatre from December 6 through 11. Tickets start at $25.

5. Go! Historic SA Guided Running and Walking Tour

The Office of Historic Preservation kicks off the holiday season with a guided tour through some of San Antonio’s historic sites recently-restored Casa Navarro, Municipal Plaza, the Atlee B. Ayers Building, the River Walk, the Crockett Hotel and more.

Those who attend will be able to enjoy the new LED lights along the Riverwalk and throughout downtown. The route is about 2.5 miles. Runners and walkers will be divided up according to experience.

Tour starts and ends at the St. Mary’s Parking Garage at 400 N. St. Mary’s

Cost: $15, price includes a fleece beenie.

6. URBAN-15’s Annual Holiday Laser Show

URBAN 15 is back with four holiday laser light shows. Each family-friendly show is 45 minutes long and includes 3D animations performed to some favorite holiday tunes. URBAN-15 Studio is located at 2500 S. Presa.

7. Southwest School of Art’s Art.i.copia

For those looking for a holiday gift that’s a little different from the norm, The Southwest School of Art will open up its gallery shop on Saturday, December 10th for Art.i.copia. From ceramics and glass, to paintings and sculptures and more, you’ll find artsy, contemporary and unique gift ideas on display - many created by local artists.

Parking at the Southwest School of Art is free. Lunch can be purchased at the event. Your purchases also help support community programs at the school. Art.i.copia is December 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., located at 300 Augusta near Navarro Street.

8. Sesame Street Live

Elmo and his friends invade the Freeman Coliseum December 16 - 18, teaching about healthy habits like exercise, proper sleep, good nutrition and hygiene through fun songs and dance. Children of all ages will find some familiar faces including Zoe, Abby Cadabby, Telly Monster and Zoe's pet rock Rocco. Plan on hearing and seeing some childhood favorite songs like "Old MacDonald", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Splish Splash."

9. Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker

The Metropolitan Classical Ballet Company and the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet come together to bring you Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker at the Lile Cockrell Theatre. There are four performances this month from Friday December 16 through Sunday December 18. Tickets start at $20. Order online or call 800-745-3000 or 210-207-3663.

10. Arjon’s Alamo City Disco Ball

Arjon’s International Club invites those who like to dance out for a night of rhythms and dance lessons. Eleven disco DJ’s will be on hand to keep the party going. There will be free dance lessons and also a dancing showcase by Arthur Murray champions.
