Spooktacular Halloween Events Calendar in October


Halloween isn't just limited to one day in San Antonio.  You'll find a host of different options throughout the month of October for kids of all ages to enjoy.

1. Nightmare on Grayson

When: Throughout the month of October

Where: 201 East Grayson Street, at the Pearl Brewery

Since 1989, The Nightmare on Grayson has been an annual haunted house tradition in San Antonio.  It's the city's longest-running haunted experience and has gained national attention. It's not recommended for expecting mothers and children under 10.

2. 13th Floor

When: Throughout the month of October

Where: 1203 E. Commerce Street, across from Sunset Station

Capitalizing on the superstitions surrounding the number 13, this haunted house is one of San Antonio's newest scary attractions.  The 13th floor opened in 2010 and is packed with Hollywood-style special effects and spooky twists and turns. 13th Floor is recommended for ages 12 and up.

3. Fiesta Texas Fright Fest

When: Weekends in October

Where: 17000 IH-10 West

Six Flags Fiesta Texas offers frightfully fun weekends throughout the month of October.  Fright Fest features haunted mazes, pulse-pounding rides, live entertainment and more.  Fright Fest is also opened on Friday, October 28. Certain attractions are recommended for ages 13 and up.


4. BOOtanica at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens

When: October 23 @ 10 am

Where: 555 Funston @ North New Braunfels Avenue

The Botanical Gardens' Bootanica is an annual plant sale and festival. This family-friendly event features arts and crafts, story time, games, contests and more.

5. HowlOScream SeaWorld

When: Fridays - Sunday in October

Where: 10500 SeaWorld Drive

 SeaWorld offers a variety of attractions for every member of the family.  You'll find kid-friendly events with games, activities and live performances.  Several day attractions feature favorite Sesame Street characters and a signature Shamu showcase. Scarier haunted tours and events kick off after 6 pm.

6. Coffins on Parada

When: October 29, 2011 @ 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Where: San Antonio River Walk

Witness floating "corpses" along the San Antonio River Walk.  This two-hour coffin parade spectacle is free to the public; first come, first serve seating.

7. Zoo Boo at the San Antonio Zoo

When: October 30 - 31 6:30 - 9:30 pm

Where: 903 North St. Mary's Street

Now in its 25th year, Zoo Boo is a Halloween staple event for children 12 and under.  Children are encouraged to come in costume for a day of games, trick-o-treating, face painting and more.  Bring your own trick-o-treat bag.


8. Ripley's Haunted Adventure

When: Open daily, times vary

Where: 329 Alamo Plaza

This interactive haunted house is experienced via a coffin cage ride and haunted walking maze. Guests experience scary sets, special effects and live monsters.


9. Ghost Tours

When: Reservations from 10 am - 7:30 pm

Where: Tours begin in Alamo Plaza

These ghost tours take you to some of San Antonio's historic haunted locations. Learn about ghost hunting and paranormal activity as you tour 10 different sites.

10. Dance With the Dead

When: October 28 @ 8 pm - Midnight

Where: 801 E. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd

The Institute of Texan Cultures hosts its annual Halloween Masquerade. This 21 and over event features music, dancing, eerie tales and a costume contest. You're encouraged to dress as your favorite departed Texan.
