From Kori Ellis, for About.com

In December, many volunteers are needed throughout San Antonio to help with projects geared toward assisting the less fortunate. Here are some great holiday volunteer opportunities in San Antonio this season.

Elf Louise Christmas Project

The Elf Louise Christmas Project provides gifts to the less fortunate children of San Antonio. Individuals and groups can volunteer to wrap toys, stock shelves, and deliver toys. It only takes a few hours of your time to bring the joy of Christmas to many less fortunate children. Call (210) 224-1843 for more information.

SAMMinistries

SAMMinistries offers "hope to the homeless" during the holiday season through a variety of events and benefits. SAMMinistries operates as an interfaith ministry providing shelter, housing and other services to the homeless in San Antonio. Volunteers are needed for gift wrapping, child care, host services and much more. Call (210) 340-0302 for more details.

San Antonio Food Bank 24-Hour Sort-A-Thon

The San Antonio Food Bank receives and stores truckloads of donated food, produce, and other grocery products. Then they distribute the items in manageable quantities to over 350 service agencies that help those in need. Volunteers are needed at the San Antonio Food Bank to sort food and make holiday food boxes. Call (210) 337-3663 for more information.

Brighton Annual Children's Holiday Party

Brighton provides services for San Antonio children with disabilities and their families. At the holiday party, Brighton provides the main dish and families participate by bringing side dishes and desserts. Each child at the party receives a gift from Santa. Volunteers are needed to set up for the party, wrap and hand out gifts, help serve the meal, and clean up after the event. For more details, call (210) 826-4492.
