History:

Dignowity Hill gets it's odd name from Dr. Anthony M. Dignowity, a Czeck immigrant who settled in San Antonio back in 1846. He and his wife began to buy up a lot of property in the area for real estate development, including their home they built called Harmony Hill. The property that Harmony Hill sat on is what is today known as Dignowity Hill Park, which is a public recreation park on the highest hill in the neighborhood.

Restaurants:

There is actually not a lot of restaurants in Dignowity Hill because most of the area is residential or small businesses that are not food related. However, a standout restaurant in the neighborhood is the Spaghetti Warehouse, which is located at 1226 E Houston St. They serve more than just spaghetti, having a great menu of Italian favorites that kids and adults both love.

Activities, Attractions and Shopping:

One of the most unique events in all of San Antonio is the yearly Dignowity Hill Pushcart Derby that takes place in March. It is a three-race event with food, music and lots of fun. It is held at Dignowity Hill Park.

Dignowity Hill Neighborhood Association:

Optional membership in the Dignowity Hill Neighborhood Association costs $5-25 depending on whether you are a resident, family or business. The benefits of membership include help starting or maintaining your Dignowity Hill business, advice on loans, funding and neighborhood improvement opportunities and more. The Association meets the fourth Thursday of each month except in April (for Fiesta), Novemeber (for Thanksgiving) and December (for Christmas).
