Terrell Hills is an upscale community in the Northeastern area of the city known as Uptown Central. It's neighbors include the equally upscale Alamo Heights, Olmos Park and Fort Sam Houston. It is a city within the city of San Antonio, with it's own mayor, city council, police force and fire department.

Real estate in Terrell Hills is amongst the most expensive in the entire city and is comparable to some of the pricier places in the entire state of Texas. With an average housing cost of $344,172, home ownership it out of reach for many in this neighborhood. However, there are many condos for sale and rent in Terrell Hills, providing an affordable alternative to those who don't need to own a large house.


Terrell Hills is served by two different school districts. Which one your child will attend depends on which part of Terrell Hills your home is located in. The school districts are Alamo Heights Independent School District and North East Independent School District.


Terrell Hills was named after Frederick Terrell, a resident of the area in the 1920s who tried to get the future city some notice by the locals. It took until 1939, but Terrell Hills finally became an incorporated city. Six years later, the city of San Antonio tried to annex the community, but failed after a lawsuit. Since then, the municipality has thrived and has it's own City Hall, mayor, city council and more.


Some of the best restaurants in the whole city proudly call Terrell Hills home. Crumpets Restaurant is repeatedly on Best Dessert and Most Romantic restaurant lists. Barn Door Restaurant and Meat Marketis one of the top steakhouses in the city that also can hold events like wedding receptions or parties on the weekends in their banquet halls.
