Scenic Oaks is what is known as a CDP, or Census Designated Place in northwest Bexar County, just outside the city limits of San Antonio. A CDP is similar to an incorporated city such as Balcones Heights, except that they have no separate government.
There is no mayor or city council but the rest of the makeup of the town or city resembles that of a town that does have these amenities.
Scenic Oaks is a part of the greater Scenic Country Estates Neighbors area. It is a small association that is still growing as more developments in and around Scenic Oaks starts to sprout up and thrive. Though there are no official borders for this association, you can see a map of the area here: Map.
Scenic Oaks is a quiet suburb and as such does not have a lot of attractions. There are plenty of places to shop and eat but as far as excitement goes, you would have to go north to nearby Boerne or down just a tad south to San Antonio to find larger events, festivals, attractions and the like.
The houses are fairly new and upscale in Scenic Oaks. The average cost of a house in Scenic Oaks is $268,000, a far cry from the state average of $106,000. A large part of this is due to the median income in the area which is a cool $96,800 or more than double the state average of $42,139.
The average house has 4 bedrooms and at least 2.5-3 baths. Many are custom built and lots to build on are generally easy to come by, though they get pricier as the popularity of this affluent suburb continues to rise.
Depending on where in Scenic Oaks that a person lives, they may be served by one of two different school districts. Some will have their children attend Northside Independent School District while others will attend the Boerne Independent School District.
For those that attend Northside ISD schools, they will be joined by children from neighboring areas like Helotes, Cross Mountain, Leon Springs, Grey Forest, Leon Valley and Shavano Park. Because this is by far the largest of all school districts in San Antonio, your child may go to one of dozens of schools. To learn more about specific schools for Scenic Oaks children, you can go the official website at nisd.net.
For those that will attend the Boerne ISD, the choices are much narrower as compared to Northside ISD. High Schoolers will attend Boerne High School until Fall of 2008, when BHS will close for renovations and Boerne Champion HS will open in its place. Middle School kids will attend either Boerne MS South or Boerne MS North.
And finally, elementary kids will attend Curington Elementary, Fabra Elementary, Cibolo Creek Elementary, Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary or Kendall Elementary. More info can be found here at boerne-isd.net.
