GFDL photo by Larry D. Moore
Owned and operated by the University of Texas at San Antonio, the Institute of Texan Cultures showcases more than 20 ethnic groups that have had a big hand in the history and development of Texas through the centuries. It has free, guided tours that are open to the public during the week, and scheduled tours for The Back 40, the outdoor section of the museum where guides in full period costumes recall life in Texas during different periods complete with log cabin houses, adobe huts and more. Each summer the Institute Hosts the Texas Folklife Festival, an event featuring food and entertainment from each ethnicity represented by the Institute.
