After the bustle of December, the San Antonio January events calendar may seem a little slim as people take a well-earned rest from the harried Holidays. There are still plenty of good concerts and museum openings to go to, though in case you get cabin fever.
Marcia Gygli King: The Metaphors of Life

The opening reception for the new Marcia Gygli King Retrospective is held tonight with a one hour lecture from Robert C. Morgan entitled "The Metaphors of Life." The famous artist (who has galleries here in San Antonio and in New York City) is being honored for her body of work and evolution, which spans 40 years. The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA), UTSA and the Southwest School of Art & Craft jointly present the venture, with two more events to mark the exhibit. Another opening reception for the new Marcia Gygli King Retrospective is held tonight, this time for the era of her career entitled "Botanical Paintings." This part of the celebration of her 40 years of art is held at the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) with a three-hour presentation. There will also be another presentation on February 3rd including a lecture by David S. Rubin the Curator of Contemporary Art for the Brown Foundation.
