With the cooler winds of October comes not only a much-needed break from high temperatures but a slew of cultural and Halloween-themed events as museums reveal their fall exhibits and theaters begin their fall runs.

Continuing in its tradition of bringing San Antonio superb chamber music and musicians from around the world, the San Antonio Chamber Music Society opens its sixty-seventh season October 4, 2009, with the Lark Quartet plus percussionist, Yousif Sheronick.

National Night Out- House Music Dance Jam

FREE House Music Dance Party – Dance enthusiasts are invited to a first of its kind National Night Out event. The Parks and Recreation Department, Mi Casa Su Casa DJ’s and the San Antonio Dance Umbrella are collaborating to offer this free event to be held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Berta Almaguer Dance Studio, 138 S. Josephine Tobin Dr. at Woodlawn Lake. House Music will be provided by Mi Casa Su Casa. The evening also include a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Riverwalk Jazz 20th Anniversary Bash

Twenty years ago The Jim Cullum Jazz Band’s local radio program, Riverwalk Jazz, started toes tapping as a project of Texas Public Radio. Today that local program jumps, jives and wails around the world. Be in the audience for a jazz extravaganza when Riverwalk Jazz in partnership with Pearl Stable presents Three Live National Broadcasts.

Moovies By Moonlight: Creature From the Black Lagoon

A free movie at HemisFair park is presented, starting at 8:00. Pre-entertainment starts at 7:00, though with parking downtown it is best to get there even earlier than that.

International Accordion Festival

10/09/2009 - 10/11/2009

The festival kicks off on Friday night with a moonlight concert at Arneson River Theatre. The festival is open to the public and admission is free all day Saturday and Sunday.

23rd Annual Gruene Music & Wine Fest

Yearly event in nearby Gruene features food and wine samplings, live music and other entertainment. Ticket information available through the link or call (830) 629-5077.

San Antonio International Piano Competition
