With labor day and a new school year among us, there are several events happening in San Antonio that change the focus from scorching hot summer to a cooler fall.

Vigils and Protests

Ramin Samandari exhibits emotional photographs of protests and vigils held in Texas of Iranian-Americans who have united to show support of Iranians who have been killed, jailed, and silenced because of disputed presidential elections.

First Friday Conjunto Jam Session

In addition the Conjunto Heritage Taller is participating in the 2009 FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA-SAFOTO International Photography Festival celebration of photo exhibits throughout the city .The Taller will be hosting a photo exhibit by local photographer Mario Perez. The exhibit will consist of photos by Mario Perez of various conjunto events in San Antonio and his passion for conjunto music.

David Rogers’ Big Bugs at the San Antonio Botanical Garden

The Garden is buzzing this weekend with the local opening of David Rogers’Big Bugs exhibit! Displayed at gardens throughout the country, David Rogers’ Big Bugs is a nationally-prominent exhibit, featuring a friendly swarm of larger-than-life insects. Constructed entirely of natural materials, these tree-sized insects turn the tables on humans, providing a “bugs-eye-view” of the important role crawly critters play in both the plant and human worlds.
