The Bottom Line

Few steakhouses in San Antonio have been around longer than Little Red Barn. Even though there may be steakhouses closer to where they live, many residents drive to the south side location to eat in the family-friendly and down-home style dining.

The steaks are some of the best in town and the prices are fair as well as this Alamo City institution.

Pros
  • Great variety of steaks
  • Always cooked to perfection
  • Friendly service
Cons
  • Baked potato condiments cost extra
  • Long waits during peak periods

Guide Review - Little Red Barn Steakhouse

A true San Antonio establishment, Little Red Barn has customers whose families have been coming to the restaurant for three generations. This is mostly because it is a family-friendly restaurant that is still good enough to bring visitors and even business clients to dine.

When you are seated, you almost immediately get your salad, and the dressings are right on the table. We recommend the garlic dressing, although the Ranch is very good as well. There are plenty of crackers and butter with rolls also served while you wait for your meal, which you order either from the menu painted on the wall or from the large cutout menus that are at the base of some tables.

The real reason to go is the steaks, which are always seasoned and cooked exactly as you ordered. The standouts include the Rib Eye, T-Bone and NY Strip. The Sirloin is good for those on a budget, though all are very affordable for the size. In fact some of the steaks come in different sizes to suit your appetite and wallet.

There are other items to order like the liver and onions that many love, chopped steak and hamburgers as well. Sides include french fries, baked potatoes and vegetables.

The only real drawbacks are that they do close between 2:00-4:30pm each day and that they are sometimes very busy and have a wait. The salad is occasionally wilted, though you can order another one if you are not happy. But the prices and very casual atmosphere for a really great steak can't be beat.
