Parents want to protect their children in every way possible. One of the best ways to protect our children is to be aware.
Access to sex offender information in Texas is provided to the public as the result of the Jacob Wetterling Registration Act and Megan's Law, which requires states to release relevant information about registered offenders to protect the public.
What is Megan's Law?
Megan's Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed by a known child molester who had moved across the street from the family without their knowledge.
In 1996, Megan's Law was enacted and began to require convicted sex offenders to register with the government. A person with a reportable conviction or adjudication must register. Their names, addresses,"risk of reoffense" and other information are all available for public knowledge.
What information About the Offender is Collected?
