Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) celebrations commemorate the Mexican Armys defeat of the invading French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1861.

This year's festival takes place from May 2-5, 2008. The Cinco de Mayo events at San Antonio's historic Market Square usually draw about 30,000 to 50,000 visitors. Festivities include mariachis, tejano and conjunto groups, folklore dancers, arts & crafts, concerts and lots of great food.
