About Texas Folklife Festival:

Originally modeled after the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C., the Texas Folklife Festival has been an annual event in San Antonio since 1972. The festival brings together the traditions, music, art, food and people of over 40 diverse Texan cultures and ethnic groups.

The three-day event attracts more than 70,000 San Antonians and vistors annually. Held over 22-acres, the Texas Folklife Festival features 10 entertainment stages, carnival rides, food booths, arts and crafts demos, kids activities and other family fun.

2008 Texas Folklife Festival:

The 37th Annual Texas Folklife Festival will be held Friday, June 13, 2008 though Sunday, June 15, 2008.
  • Friday: 5:00pm – 11:00pm
  • Saturday: 11:00am – 11:00pm
  • Sunday: 12:00pm – 7:00pm
With admission to the festival, you will also gain admission to the Institute of Texan Cultures where you will learn how people with many different beliefs, ideas, backgrounds, cultures and resources built the state of Texas. UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures is located in downtown San Antonio, off I-37 at the intersection of Bowie and Durango Streets.

From May 1 through June 15 (unless noted otherwise), tickets to the Texas Folklife Festival may be purchased any of the following ways:

Festival Ticket Prices:

Advanced Tickets (beginning May 1)

  • Adults: $10.00
  • Children (Ages 6-12): $6.00
  • Children (5 & under): Free
  • Three-day Admission Pass: $25
  • Food/Beverage/Ride Coupons: $10 per sheet ($.50 each)
  • Group tickets (25 or more): $8.00 each

Tickets at the Gate

  • Adults: $12.00
  • Children (Ages 6-12): $6.00
  • Children (5 & under): Free

Texas Folklife Festival Entertainment and Food:

There are ten entertainment stages at the Texas Folklife Festival, which feature folk dancing, world music and dynamic storytellers. Over 150 authentic foods are served at the festival, including Greek gyros, Cajun gumbo, Indian sag paneer, Mexican dishes and much more.

Over 1,000 volunteers make the Texas Folklife Festival possible. Volunteers working at least a four hour shift earn a wristband for free admission all three days. For more information on volunteering, call (210) 458-2216.

Who Benefits:

The proceeds from the festival are given back to the cultural groups, who in turn use the revenue to promote their culture through outreach programs and other events. The groups also provide scholarships to Texas youth.
