San Antonio NeighborhoodsFrom About.com The city of San Antonio is the seventh most populous city in the U.S and quite wide-spread, covering over 400 square miles. The neighborhoods and subdivisions in San Antonio number in the hundreds. However the city can be broken down into sixteen major geographical areas. Within each area are numerous neighborhoods, subdivisions and historical districts. Central Loop![]() The Central Loop area is what most people dub "downtown San Antonio." It's referred to as a loop because Interstates 35, 37 and US Highway 90 form a lopsided rectangular loop around the downtown San Antonio and surrounding areas.
Midtown![]() Midtown is the central area of San Antonio which is well-known for its architecture, history and cultural arts. This area includes many of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. Uptown Central![]() Uptown Central is border by Loop 410 to the north and Basse Road to the South; Highway 281 to the east and West Avenue to the West. This area of town is home to many neighborhoods that would be considered "old money" sections of San Antoino. North Central![]() This area of the city is bordered by three highways - Highway 281 to the east, IH-10 to the west, and IH-35 to the south. On the north, it's border by Bitters Rd/Huebner Rd. Far North Central![]() In far North Central San Antonio, you will find many upscale communities with some of the highest real estate prices in the area. Northwest![]() The Northwest section of San Antonio is home to the Medical Center area, which includes some of the best medical facilities in the country. Far Northwest![]() The Far Northwest area of San Antonio is home to some of the top real estate in all of Bexar County. Exclusive communities such as The Dominion are located in this part of San Antonio. Northeast![]() The Northeast area of San Antonio is bordered by Loop 1604 on both the north and east sides. On the west, it's bordered by Broadway St./Wetmore Rd./Bulverde Rd., while on the south, the boundaries are I-35 and Seguin Road. Windcrest Light Up, one of the best Christmas light displays in the country, takes place here. Far Northeast![]() In the Far Northeast section of town, you will find an array of family communities, as well as the horse track at Retama Park in Selma. Eastside![]() The area that is considered Eastside San Antonio is bordered by IH-35 to the north, IH-10 and Rigsby Avenue to the south, Loop 410 on the east and New Braunfels Avenue on the west. Southside![]() The Southside of San Antonio, includes the 64 square mile area of City South, which is home to the new Toyota plant. Southwest![]() The Southwest area of San Antonio is bordered by Loop 410 on the south and west sides. On the north, it's bordered by Highway 90, while I-35 is the east boundary. Southeast![]() The Southeast area of San Antonio consists of some of the oldest communities in the city. You will also find the Pecan Valley Golf Club here - one of the best golf courses in the entire state. |
