Soul Food Fest

About Soul Food Fest: The Soul Food Fest features food booths and vendors selling BBQ, fried fish and chicken, collard greens, turkey legs, crawfish, gumbo, sweet potato pie and more. There is also an arts and craft area, local choir performances, musical entertainment, a kids area and a whole lot of family fun.

The San Antonio festival takes place each year in May at La Villita Historic District.

2008 Soul Food Fest:
  • Date: Friday, May 16, 2008 and Saturday, May 17, 2008
  • Location: La Villita (418 Villita Street)
  • Admission: Free - Please bring a canned food item.

Friday night is Gospel Night, featuring local and national gospel musical artists, dancers and mime from 5:00pm to 11:00pm.

Saturday is Family Day, featuring face painting, games, entertainment, R&B bands, food and much more from 11:00am-Midnight.

Soul Food Fest Music Competitions: Friday from 6:00pm-9:30pm is the Adult Gospel Competition at Maverick Plaza. The top prize is $5,000. The competition is hosted by Guy Fortt, singer and actor of the Broadway production of "The Color Purple."

On Saturday, there is a Gospel music workshop from 10:00am to 12noon at Bolivar Hall (418 Villita). To attend the workshop, you must pre-register.

The Youth Gospel Choir Competition is Saturday afternoon from 12noon to 2:30pm. The top prize for the youth competition is $500. To learn more about the gospel competions and workshop, please visit lavillita.com.
